Bess Wallace Truman Scholarship

Founded in 2000, the Bess Wallace Truman Scholarship was created to honor the memory of the only First Lady of the United States from Independence, MO, who was active in many community service organizations in the area.

JSL presents two community awards on an annual basis: The Susan Paxton Block Distinguished Public Service Award and the Mary DeWitt Gift Scout Patch for Service.

It is JSL's practice to give financial support to assist projects or programs through Community Grants to benefit people in the Eastern Jackson County area.
